Veinwave Treatment of Spider Veins on the Face and Legs
Coastal Radiology Associates is pleased to offer state-of-the-art Veinwave therapy for removal of small, unwanted thread or spider veins and vascular blemishes on your face and legs. This revolutionary procedure was developed in Britain and has recently received approval for use in the United States.
The Veinwave system uses thermocoagulation to remove spider veins and vascular blemishes quickly and permanently. This process uses an ultrafine insulated needle through which very high frequency microwave energy is delivered into the blood vessels to "heat" the visible vein, causing it to be reabsorbed into the body. Veins on the face and legs respond very well to treatment.
The results of Veinwave therapy are lasting. It may take up to 6 weeks to heal completely from a treatment. Depending on your individual needs, you will require a series of at least two treatments to fully and effectively achieve the results you want. How to Prepare
| 1. Artificial sunless tanners (creams, lotions, sprays, or towels) should not be applied for six weeks prior to treatment. Do not use any lotions or creams on your legs the day of treatment. |

| 2. Clean face with no makeup, lotions, creams or other topical medications. | |
| 3. Discomfort can be minimized by taking 2 Tylenol, 30 minutes prior to treatment. | |
| 4. On occasion, the technologist can apply a small amount of a topical anesthetic cream to reduce sensitivity. However, anesthetic cream does not reduce the effectiveness of the procedure. | |
| 5. For rosacea patients, a pretreatment with azelaic acid gel 15% (finacea gel) is needed for four weeks prior to the therapy to optimize the results of Veinwave. Azelaic acid gel will open up the pores. Rasacea is caused by blockage of pores which causes inflammation, and the inflammation causes the in-growth of vessels. The azelaic acid gel is used to open up the pores so that you are getting to the underlying cause first before treating the veins. | |
What to Expect
Veinwave uses an ultrafine insulated needle through which very high frequency microwave energy is delivered into the blood vessels, causing heating and shrinkage of the veins without damaging the surrounding skin.
Veinwave treatments generallly last 20-30 minutes depending on the number of veins being treated. There is little to no downtime associated with the Veinwave process, so you can resume normal activities immediately following treatment. Most patients will experience slight redness on the skin.
Following treatment, a technologist will apply a small amount of Velderm aloe ointment. This is a unique combination of whole leaf aloe vera and petroleum. Together, they help to heal dry, chapped and cracked skin. Sunless tanners should be avoided until treated areas are completely healed. Sunscreen is recommended after treatment.
Facial or microdermabrasion treatments should not be scheduled until treatment is complete or treated areas are completely healed.
